Erste Group (Česká spořitelna) has long been one of the top financial houses in the Czech Republic, to which George’s sophisticated online banking has made a significant contribution. As in recent years, interest in its financial services has grown, as has the number of employees, branches and systems. The situation became critical when last year almost half of the employees used services and e-mails on the Google platform G Suite and the rest worked on Office 365 and used MS Teams for communication and work. It was time to unify the systems, and that’s when TrustSoft came into play.
Inconsistency of systems complicates the work
It may seem trivial, because both platforms offer very sophisticated and closed system that works flawlessly, but the problem occurs during document sharing and resaving and employees lack the possibility to use the central shared storage. That often results in multiple file versions. MS Office was chosen as the main system, and that meant migrating all content from the Google environment.
Challenge – communication and analysis
As part of a larger team involved in the migration, we were given the task of preparing an in-depth pre-migration analysis, as well as scripts for a successful and flawless migration.During the analysis, we found out the volume and amount of data on disk and in e-mails, the number of users, the number of websites running in the cloud, etc. But it was not easy, we had to deal with the following problems:
- we did not have a full access to the G Suite environment or to the Office
- we had to tune up the cooperation and communication across junior and senior colleagues in the Česká spořitelna team, who had only limited access to certain parts of the system
After analysis time for creating scripts
Although we did not have a full access to both interfaces for most of the time, we were able to debug possible problems to ensure a successful pre-migration analysis. And then the next step of our cooperation began, namely the creation of scripts that would ensure the accuracy of the transferred data. It was important to take into account the differences between the two interfaces. For example, in G Suite it is possible to have several documents with the same name, because the system will give each file a unique ID. However, MS Office evaluates the document as a duplicate and saves only one copy…
